Humble And Kind wins Song Of The Year at the 2016 CMA Awards
McKenna originally wrote “Humble and Kind” for her five children. She is a longtime friend of McGraw and his wife Faith Hill, especially after Hill covered four of McKenna’s original songs on her 2005 album Fireflies. In addition to pulling McGraw onstage with her to accept the award, McKenna also thanked Hill in her speech, bringing the singer to tears from the audience.
“Oh good Lord, good Lord! I have a job in this town because of this guy’s wife — Faith Hill,” said McKenna with tears in her eyes. “And Tim [McGraw] took a little prayer that I wrote for five kids … I wrote them a little prayer one day, and he took it and made this moment of it, and I thank him so much.”
McKenna also won Song of the Year last year, for penning Little Big Town‘s hit “Girl Crush.”
