Tim called me from his car one day, and said I just read this article in a magazine titled “If you’re reading this”. He said it was all these letters from soldiers home to their loved ones, and that he thought it would be a great song idea, to write a song that was written entirely like a letter, so that if you read the lyrics, it would sound just like a letter.
So we all just tried to imagine what we would write, if we thought it might be our last letter home. It was a spiritual writing experience, because we all knew how special this song would be if we got it right. Brad and I didn’t even know he was going to sing it on the ACM’s, and when he was singing it I was covered in goose bumps, and when he showed all the families at the end, I cried like a baby. I can only hope that this song will bring some healing to the families who have lost a loved one in this war, or any war. The overwhelming response for this song, I hope will also let every member of our military know just how much there sacrifice means to us all. You are all always in my prayers. God bless America Brett Warren
